Chapter 2.
An accident stole her parents from her when she was just 6. Margret was everything she had to call her own. It's been 13 years now.
The Chamfers were the wealthiest of families in Wierbone at that time. The three brothers owned the grape fields and wine industry. Most of their earnings were stored in the treasury located inside the house. The location was a secret even to the house maid. Once full of happiness and joy that gigantic mansion was now abandoned.
Alice’s father was the youngest of the siblings. He named Alice as the heir to his part of the industry when she was just a toddler. Not knowing she would have to take it over so soon.
Margret leaned to pick that letter resting on the floor. “What is so strange about this invitation dear”, Margret asked as trying to read the letter with those rheumy eyes. “It says 25th of December, that’s the day after tomorrow”, Margret exclaimed but still struggling to read she continued, “At the Duvin Mansion” and suddenly the reason for Alice’s reaction cleared up to her. “I still remember that day when papa took me there. Can’t forget those gold chandeliers and fancy dresses. It was heavenly.. I was so happy to be with papa that day, never thought it could be the last day I’ll ever be with him..”, tears rolled down her red cheeks as she told.
Later that evening at the dinning table, “Would you like some more of the soup?”. Margret asked as she passed the bowl to Alice. Dim light from candles made the whole table look golden.
(13 years ago in a room of Duvin Mansion)
“Papa! where are you going”, said a little girl dressed in white jesuit. “Alice go stay with momma, I have some important work, I’ll be right with you”, said a bulky voice.
